Dr. Nawal Farhat MSc, PhD
Principal Epidemiologist, Partner
Dr. Nawal Farhat is a founding partner at TruEffect where she serves as the Principal Epidemiologist. She has provided consulting services to Canadian and International clients since 2013 in epidemiology, evidence synthesis, risk assessment, and health analytics. At TruEffect, she is actively involved in leading projects and meeting with clients to ensure their project goals are effectively met.
Nawal completed both her PhD and Master’s degrees in Epidemiology at the University of Ottawa. She also holds a BASc in Chemical Engineering. For her doctoral studies, Nawal was awarded a Doctoral Research Award by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to investigate the risk of drug-drug interactions using a large database of electronic medical records.
In addition to her role at TruEffect, Nawal is a postdoctoral fellow at Carleton University working on developing a practical evidence integration framework in human health risk assessment. Previously, she completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Ottawa where she led a large systematic review on the association between exposure to radiofrequency fields from cell phones, base stations, and radio and tv transmission towers, with cancer.
Nawal has attended numerous workshops delivered by the World Health Organization and the Training Programs in Epidemiology and Public Health Interventions Network (TEPHINET) on public health in humanitarian emergencies. Previously, she worked as a communicable disease surveillance epidemiologist coordinating the implementation of surveillance programs and delivering workshops to peripheral teams.
Nawal is also an instructor of research methods at the university level. She continues to be actively involved in research projects at the University of Ottawa and the Lebanese International University, particularly in evidence synthesis involving critical and systematic reviews. She regularly presents her research findings and attends international conferences.
